Thanks to the assistance of Gallatin County Search & Rescue, the two individuals were able to swim/paddle to the bank side of the river. Search & Rescue “acted as downstream safety, and were waiting to assist with throw bags.“ Luckily, both individuals escaped the incident uninjured, and they even got a courtesy ride back to their vehicle.
For these kayakers to take away precious resources for this trying time in Montana comes off as extremely selfish and stupid. Kayakers should prepare for their journey by doing their research before heading out, and be prepared for unexpected circumstances. If your raft/kayak capsizes in Gallatin County, please call the non-emergency line(406-582-2100) to get assistance. Additionally, if you’re a bystander in a similar situation, reach out to the authorities immediately. If you see something, say something.
