Bystanders Build Makeshift Stretcher From Belts, Shoelaces & Branches To Rescue Colorado Hiker

We alongside paramedics with Platte Canyon Fire want to heap praise on a group of people who fashioned a stretcher out of belts, shoelaces and tree branches to carry an injured 77-year-old hiker on Guanella Pass to safety.

9NEWS reports first responders said the actions of the group were “instrumental” in the survival of the man who appeared to have fallen somewhere off the Whiteside Trail. At least five people on the trail helped the man before a crew of firefighters and paramedics got the call at 6:13 p.m. Sunday. The Good Samaritans carried the man at least a half mile before  meeting up with paramedics on the trail who brought their own stretcher to replace the one made by hand. Good work ya’ll.
