VIDEO: Snowboarder Triggers Avalanche in Alaska (October 1st)

Gnarly video of a snowboarder triggered avalanche in Tincan’s Common Bowl up in Alaska from October 1st.  The fracture was around 16″ deep and slab up to 200′ wide. Thankfully no one caught. Weak layer unknown, but suspected to be a form of facets under the 1-2′ of new snow. Never too early to start your avalanche safety training for the upcoming winter. Find resources HERE.

Snowboarder was able to stay well in front of avalanche after triggering it near the top of the slope. It was very slow, seemed like it cracked then didn’t really start moving for several seconds. Most likely a wind slab, sliding on the last layer of snow we got.
