BASE Jumper Dies In Nevada’s Ruby Mountains

A 38-year old man from Las Vegas has died in a BASE jumping accident in the Ruby Mountains of Northern Nevada. This is the second BASE jumping death in the area this season.

According to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, David Wessels died of blunt force trauma after slamming into some rocks in a talus field. The accident occurred in the Lamoille Canyon, an area known to BASE jumpers as being exceptionally dangerous due to unpredictable air upslope and downslope air currents.

This is the second death of a BASE jumper in the Ruby Mountains this summer. On June 12, another death occurred in the area of Lamoille Canyon. Sponsored BASE jumper Daniel Ristow passed away after crashing into the talus.
