Former Canadian Ski Hill Converted To Mountain Bike Trails (Operated 1957-1985)

Neat little place to ride up in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada where a former skill hill (operated 1957-1985) is now home to a couple new mountain bike trails, with more on the way. CTV News reports the new trails at Rockwood Park in St. John’s are meant to complement the 56km of existing biking routes in the park. Phase two of the project should be complete in about a year.

“There’s been a lot of cycling in Rockwood Park since the 90s and a lot of that stuff is old school technical mountain biking that tends to have a lot of peddling, a lot of up and down, and a lot of technical features,”The Saint John Cycling Club President Greg Bosence

The two new trails add 2 km of cycling pathways to the park, starting at a higher elevation.

“It’s kind of downhill flow trail, people can go fairly fast and not peddle a whole lot, until they get to the bottom. It’s not a pure downhill, it’s more of an all-around mountain bike trail where there’s a little bit of ups and downs but there’s lots of flowy sections where you gain a lot of speed.” -The Saint John Cycling Club Vice President Dean Rice

In a tribute to the areas ski origins, the foundation of the t-bar will remain in place. Very cool.
