Vail Resorts is spending over $110 million dollars in capital projects this offseason, mostly in the state of Colorado. One of the major lift construction projects of the summer is the building of the Peru Express Six-Pack chairlift at Keystone Resort in Colorado. This project involves the removal of the Peru Express and also the adjacent Argentine chairlift, which was one of the originals lifts that opened with Keystone Resort back in 1970. In June, removing the towers and foundations of Peru and Argentine, also known as “hot work”, was delayed due to a massive drought in Colorado. During June, filling the foundations of the base and summit terminals commenced. Removing the towers of Peru and Argentine began again in July after the heaviest rainfall in July since 2011. Another future project down the pipeline is the Bergman Bowl expansion which will feature intermediate terrain and a new lift on high-alpine terrain. Despite the delays, the lift is expected to open during the 21-22 winter season.
