Cut Off From U.S.-Minnesota Town Plows 22-Mile Ice Road

Northwest Angle, MN is the northernmost point in the continental United States, but can only be accessed by vehicle by driving through Canada.

The town was essentially cut-off from the rest of the country when the borders closed last year.

Locals got creative and plowed a 22-mile ice road over The Lake of the Woods to reconnect the town to the rest of the state. It costs $500 for an annual pass that keeps the road opened.

Desperate times call for desperate measures when you’re a northern-Minnesotan resident cut off from the rest of society due to COVID-19. I hope that ice bridge takes a long time to melt.
