Work on the Nansen Ski Jump began in November and wrapped up in January.

Many ski areas in North American can trace their beginning to ski jumping, and this film provides a window into a competition supposedly held at the Big Nansen Ski Jump in Milan, NH from 1939!

They clearly believed there was some benefit to flapping their arms in the air… Don’t know if they did it for stability or distance, but it looks funny regardless.

“This is footage of a ski jumping competition sometime around 1939 (based on the date codes on the film). It was shot on Kodak 16mm film. We think this might be at Big Nansen in Milan, NH.”
