Breckenridge’s Ullr statue is a 25-foot tribute to the Norse god of skiing, and bow hunting, that sits at the base of the Peak 8 chair. The statue was installed in-time for Breck’s opening day earlier this season.
The Ullr statue was funded by Breckenridge Grand Vacations, and created by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott. The statue’s official name is “Let it Snow”.
Scott works in a studio in Philadelphia, PA, and was selected for the project by Breckenridge Grand Vacations CEO Mike Dudick among 174 applicants, according to Summit Daily.
Scott visited Breckenridge for 2019’s Ullr Fest, and drew a rough sketch before he even left the resort:
“The Ullr idea came to my head very quickly,”…“Before I had left Breckenridge, I had the idea in my head and sketched it down. It must’ve been the beautiful surroundings and the mountain here that did it to me. Not every inspiration comes as quickly.”
The statue is made from a wire frame covered in thousands of steel pieces that is then galvanized at an industrial factory for weather resistance.
