“Monopoly House” Is Off-Grid Living Done With Style

The Monopoly House in Portugal is completely off-grid, generating power from a massive solar array and drawing water from the property. Located on 1000+ acre farm in Alcácer do Sal, Portugal, the 4,356-square-foot residence was conceived as a simple child’s drawing of a fire engine red gable-roofed house with clean, sharp outlines, and simple doors and windows and brought to live by  Lisbon–based architect Luis Rebelo de Andrade. Andrade compares The Monopoly House’s form to the homes of the first settlers in the American West.
