This massive sheet of pumice stones floating in the South Pacific toward Australia is the result of underwater volcanos dispersing the lighter than water rock. Some estimates have it covering an area of 58 square miles with an apron of abraded white ash in its wake more than three times that size. Interestingly coral reef that attaches to pumice stone can be carried great distances and colonize new regions. Learn something new everyday:
