Vail Will Be Expanding It’s Ski Terrain

The project has been denied in the past due to concerns over stream health, soil stability and sedimentation. However, this time Vail has gained approval for the expansion from the US Forest Service.

The project, known as Golden Peak, will include a new surface lift and three new trails, one of which will be a dedicated mogul run. The new area will be used as training space for the Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) and will also include an extended race hill that will be able to host women’s World Cup downhill as well as men’s NorAm downhill.

Expansion By The Numbers

The lift will take skiers and snowboarders to the top of Golden Peak, adding 250m+ of vertical from the existing Chair 6.

Vail has been working on getting approval for the project for nearly 30 years. It is projected to cost $5m.

Construction on the project is set to begin this summer.
