A teenager perished in an Austrian avalanche this past week and his parents are claiming that the fatal slide was set off by a ski patroller who was in the process of rescuing the family. The family had called for assistance after becoming stuck in deep, powder-snow conditions between two popular pistes at the popular ski area, St Anton am Arlberg.
According to SBS News, the patrollers told the family to stay put and wait for help to arrive. While they were descending to the family’s location, an avalanche was triggered that ultimately buried and killed 16 year-old Australian national, Max Meyer.
