The group had been climbing uphill in single file when the avalanche occurred. One skier witnessed the other six get buried and was able to call for help. The group was carrying avalanche rescue gear.
Quebec provincial police were called and paramedics and firefighters responded with evacuation sleds. The rescue took several hours with the last person evacuated around 8:30pm. One skier suffered a dislocated shoulder. The skier with the most serious injuries suffered a back injury and must undergo surgery but reported to be in stable condition.
