Antelope Butte is a small but soulful ski hill on the western side of Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains that’s been closed since 2004. Thanks to some passionate locals, that’s about to change and workers are currently in place to improve the existing lodge and get lifts running again for the 18/19 ski season.
Many of eastern Wyoming’s residents learned how to slide on snow here and it’s great to see a local cooperative coming together to keep skiing alive in their community. The deciding factor was a final grant from the State Loan and Investment Board worth approximately $185,600.
That sum allowed resort officials to commit funds for a beginner, surface lift. Besides that loan, most of the fundraising came from a combination of big and small donors from the local community.
According to their Instagram page, load testing for the two person chair is next and barring any unforseen disaster, it’s looking like a go for Antelope Butte.
