Yellowstone Geyser Spews Old Trash After Decades Of Dormancy

After years of inactivity, Yellowstone’s Ear Spring erupted last month and along with a 30 foot plume of boiling hot water, old garbage also came spewing from the geological feature.

USA Today reports park employees found all kinds of garbage around the geyser site including a Hamm’s beer can, dozens of coins, a shoe heel, a cinderblock, a busted bottle, old signs, cigarette butts, an eight-inch drinking straw and most interestingly a vintage pacifier that dates back to the 1930s.

Park curators are considering displaying the items as a reminder to visitors not to use they springs as trash cans:

“Foreign objects can damage hot springs and geysers, The next time Ear Spring erupts we hope it’s nothing but natural rocks and water.”
