“Last week Iran’s head of Civil Defence Organisation claimed neighbouring Israel had been stealing clouds and snow from his country.
The accusations were made at an agricultural conference in the Iranian capital of Tehran by Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali, who said: “Foreign interference is suspected to have played a role in climate change. Joint teams from Israel and one of the neighbouring countries make the clouds entering into Iran barren. Moreover, we are faced with the cases of cloud theft and snow theft.”
Jalali later cited a recent survey finding that all mountainous areas higher than 2,190m stretching from Afghanistan to the Mediterranean Sea were covered in snow, except for Iran. This adverse weather was blamed on Iran’s neighbouring nation.” –The Telegraph
Before I begin, let me start by saying as skiers– we all blame the weather for our most of our woes. We blame the wind, the jet-stream, the moisture content, the temperature, pretty much whatever we can unless it’s the best day ever.
So when the Iranian Defense Minister, Gholam Reza Jalali started blaming the Israeli government for making its clouds “barren,” we knew we had to get on board with this wildcard. Blaming another country, state, or ski town for your winter weather woes is brilliant. Not only does it unite your nation/ski town’s skiers and riders against a common foe (Ex: Steamboat & Aspen or Jackson & Sun Valley or Dizin (*Iran) & Mount Hermon (*Israel)), it makes sitting on the couch lazily that much easier.
No guilt for this defense minister. He didn’t go skiing because Israel literally stole his ski season. As a politician, this is the ultimate alpha move. The statement is literally as unpredictable as weather itself and despite everyone knowing in their heart of hearts how ridiculous such a statement is LITERALLY by nature– we all want someone to blame for that shitty season. So we sympathize and laugh.
By the way, Jackson definitely stole all the snow last season… fuck those guys.
