Avalanche Kills 3 Skiers In Swiss Alps Over The Weekend

Three Spanish skiers were killed by an avalanche on Saturday in the Swiss canton of Valais reports The Local.

The three were a part of a larger group of 5 whose objective was to ski in the mountains above Fiescheralp. Literally translated as “Cow’s Floor,” Fiescheralp is a car-free, high elevation village (*7,257′) that offers easy access to nearby backcountry skiing.

All 5 were caught in the slide but only two survived the ordeal. The entire group was properly equipped with avalanche beacons.

The three who were caught were not recovered until Sunday due to adverse weather conditions.

*Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s friends and family.
