Dosing a fellow countryman’s drink in order to steal their olympic roster spot is the opposite of what the olympics are all about– good sportsmanship.

Yasuhiro Suzuki will not be attending the olympics in Tokyo in 2020 after the 30 year-old kayaker confessed to adding a banned substance to a teammate’s drink. That competitor, Seiji Komatsu later failed a drug test and was disqualified from future olympic events. Thankfully, that move is now being reversed.

According to the Asahi Shimbum, guilt finally got the better of Suzuki and he confessed to the Japan Canoe Federation. He also apologized to Komatsu who is expected to appear in the 2022 olympic games in Tokyo. Suzuki is expected to be banned from international kayak competition for 8 years.
