Thousands of spectators were on hand for The North Face Chilean Freeride Championship held at El Colorado.  Love seeing events like this popping up in the southern hemisphere. Here is their official press release:

“The most vertical race in South America, The North Face Chilean Freeride Championship, was stained with national colors thanks to the great victories of Claudia Aliaga (ski women), Isidora Assler (women snowboarding) and Manuel Diaz (snowboarding men), in a competition Marked by the high technical level of the national and international participants.

Claudia Aliaga had already anticipated on Friday that this would be his tournament and in his final presentation showed the best of his repertoire with great jumps, good turns and a lot of speed. After her was the great promise of the national freeski, Saga Goñi, who at just 16 years improved the third position he obtained in 2016. The podium was closed by our country’s Olympic champion in 2014, Dominique Ohaco.

In the men’s ski, the world champion, Leo Slemett, showed all his category with one of the best presentations that Santa Tere remember. The French capped his descent with a perfect backflip that impressed all the attendees. Behind him were Niccolo Zaratini (ITA) and American Johnny Collinson.

Isidora Assler dominated the women’s snowboard thanks to a descent with great control and fluidity. Frenchwoman Iyoma Fugain repeated the second place of last year, leaving in the third place to the Chilean Macarena Bravo.

The men’s snowboard was dominated by a superb performance of Manuel Diaz who showed his best tricks and perfect control of his career. Behind him was last year’s winner Paulo Audisio and the outstanding French rider, Hugo Serra.

The natural amphitheater of Santa Tere received more than a thousand people to enjoy the best freeride in the world. Glowing grills, radiant sunshine and a very pleasant temperature accompanied a competition morning that had everything: great jumps, slopes of more than 45 ° of inclination and a lot of snow in the environs of El Colorado.

The competition was also followed live by thousands of people who witnessed streaming via Facebook from The North Face Chile.”
