The Snow Water Equivalents in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California is dramatically higher than it was just three years ago. In 2014 the Sierra Nevada mountains were experiencing Extreme Drought with no relief in sight. Today, drought conditions in the Golden State are looking far less dire. But is the drought over? Well…. That might not be the right question to ask.
According to NBC Los Angeles, California’s water board is extending emergency drought regulations until May. To it’s peoples credit, water usage in Los Angeles now is 20 percent below the level three years ago.
However, the lasting issue is California’s ground water. In some areas, ground level has dropped more than 30 feet since the World War Two era, and threatens to damage aqueducts and flood control structures, according to DWR. Ground water is not as easy to fill as the states reservoirs which in some cases are flowing over their banks.
