“All of a sudden I heard a loud whoompf. The whole thing ripped out.” -Jason Bond

The group of twelve skiers from Utah included expert backcountry skiers, some with ski patrol experience and two doctors. The group was on a week long snowcat skiing trip with Big Red Cats in the Selkirk Mountains when 75 yard wide avalanche struck.

The slide buried seven, with one member wrapped around a tree like a horseshoe according to ksl.com. One member of the group was swept 500-600 yards down mountain by the slide. The rescue took 8 hours and 3 toboggan runs to get everyone to safety.  Everyone in the group had proper avalanche gear and training including  briefings with their guide just that morning.
