WATCH: Ski Airbag Vest Detects Imbalance and Deploys In Less Than 100 Milliseconds

If you have never seen the In&motion ski airbag vest in action, it is quite impressive. It was first introduced to world of professional ski racing and has since been approved by governing bodies like the International Ski Federation in Alpine Skiing and Ski Cross, as well as by some National Ski Federations. The vest is now available for sale to the general public via In&motion’s first brand partner POC for a hefty ($1250). Kind of goofy but it only needs to come in handy once to be worth it:

“The airbag system consists of integrated sensors and uses a precise algorithm to distinguish between a crash or fall from the normal forces associated with Alpine racing. In order to detect a loss of balance the system keeps track of a rider’s movement by performing 1000 analysis per second. When a fall is detected, the airbag is inflated in less than 100 milliseconds to provide protection for the neck, chest, spine, abdomen and hips.”
