You’ll Never Believe What This Family Saw in the Sky Outside Their House in Finland.

Can you imagine seeing this outside your house? These Sun Halos appeared outside a small village in Finland. Note: These photos had no retouching done, and are not photoshopped.

In a small village in Finland, Pauli Hänninen and his family received a call from their friend, to go outside and look up at the sky. What they saw blew them away.

These are sun halos, which are produced by the ice crystals in cirrostratus clouds.

The crystals behave like prisms and mirrors, refracting and reflecting sunlight between their faces, sending shafts of light in particular directions.

The hexagon crystals have a symmetrical property: No matter how they are oriented, no matter how sunlight falls into them, they always refract it under an angle of roughly 22°.

“It was cold and very foggy, the temperature was around -10 degrees Celsius,” said Hänninen. “When the clouds began to break, there were rainbow colours in the sky and a halo spanning 360 degrees! It was worth taking a picture or two.”

If I ever stepped outside and saw this in my backyard, I might think the aliens were invading!
