As one of the most progressive countries in the EU, Copenhagen continues to shatter traditional expectations when it comes to energy.

According to The Guardian, the Scandinavian country is working with Bjarke Ingels Group to create a power plant that doubles as a ski slope with 295′ of vertical relief. And while that’s no Chamonix or Jackson Hole, I know a lot of Midwesterners who would love to have a power plant like this in their backyard. Not only is the ski area/power plant the first of its kind but it’s also a shining star of sustainability.

The plant itself creates energy by converting biomass into electricity with an efficiency rating of 99%. Along with that green mission, the power plant is going miles beyond traditional requirements by attaching a ski slope to the side of the building. The plant will host a black run with steepness reaching up to 45° and measures approximately 590 feet long.
Ultimately, employees will be able to take ski breaks, creating a healthy and happy workforce that isn’t afraid to put in the extra effort to create clean energy for the masses. Also included in the design are a series of gardens along with a climbing wall.
