Announcing Maine’s New Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument

President Obama has officially created the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in Maine. The new monument comprising some 87,500 acres of land in Maine’s North Woods. These lands will offer recreation in the form of hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and more.

Maine’s congressional delegation refused to back a national park designation for the area which led to Obama designation for the Katahdin Woods and Waters as only a National Monument.

FACT: President Obama has conserved more land and water than any other U.S. president.
