The 16 year old girl who went missing on Thursday in Grand Teton National Park has been found but the details of her recovery have only raised more questions. According to NBC News, Fauna Jackson changed her appearance and tried to evade park rangers when they confronted the Cincinnati native.
Jackson, who was working with Groundwork USA, was found less than 4 miles from the place where she was last seen. She vanished during a bathroom break sparking an “all-hands-on-deck” search party for the teen. Upon finding Jackson, personnel noted that her appearance had changed. Fauna cut and dyed her hair as well as changed clothes and when park rangers approached her, she fled.
She was briefly hospitalized for a “welfare check.” 115 staff members with the National Park Service, FBI, U.S. Forest Service and other agencies participated in the search that included aircraft and ATVs. The cost of the operation has not been determined.
