VIDEO: Washington’s Elwha River Thrives After Largest Dam Removal in U.S. History

YouTube Poster

Salmon have already returned to the Elwha River after nearly a century of absence after the largest dam removal project in the history of the US. The ecosystem of the Elwa River is thriving. After removing the hydroelectric dam, the flow of sediment has made a perfect ecosystem for salmon population, some of which are endangered species. Environmentalists hope the success of the restoration will be used as an example for more dam removals across the country.
