14 Year Old NYC Girl First To Climb Hardest Boulder Problem By A Female (V15)

Wunderkind, Ashima Shiraishi, just pulled off a bouldering problem that puts her in the most elite of company. On on a spring break trip to Japan she successfully climbed a boulder problem with a rating of V15, which is basically the current upper limit to difficulty.

This makes Ashima not only the only female to accomplish a problem with this rating, but also the youngest person (male or female) to do so.

“The V15 that Shiraishi climbed is named Horizon, and it’s located on a large boulder in the mountainous Buddhist enclave of Mt. Hiei, on the southern island of Kyushu, near Miyazaki. Deep in the woods, this large granite rock is perched across the terrain, creating a natural tunnel that goes straight through. The boulder is so large and smooth it almost resembles a spaceship, hovering menacingly just above the ground.”National Geographic

What an incredible accomplishment at any age. The future is bright for you Ashima!
