RASTA’s Support Backcountry Skiing in Vermont

Rochester, VT- RASTA or Rochester Area Sports Trails Alliance (I know pretty clever huh?) recently launched a backcountry effort to sustainably clear trails for gladed skiing in central Vermont, specifically on Mt. Skidoo in the Braintree Mountain Forest. Although they are just in the beginning efforts, the non-profit backcountry group is hoping to promote their recently launched Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign with a production via T-Bar Films. And after seeing the video above, it appears that they are already reaping the benefits of their hard labors.

Mission Statement: Rochester Area Sports Trail Alliance (RASTA) was founded in 2013 with a mission to provide safe and sustainable multiple use trails and backcountry (BC) ski glades for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors to the Central Vermont area.

During the upcoming year, RASTA is hoping to expand gladed skiing in the area by touching on at least three peaks in the Braintree Mountain Forest with the help of crowdfunding.

“Our plan is to continue building on the success of the first BC glade by creating what could become one of Vermont’s largest maintained BC zones. We experienced some growing pains last winter as parking was a big issue and needs to be resolved. The old cabin at the foot of Skidoo Mtn is perfectly located to serve day use and overnight BC skiers. It needs a some fixing up and a new wood stove. Once completed it will comfortably sleep 8, have a cozy comfortable feel and be a great addition to the BMF!”
