Kayaking Pub Crawl Causes Problems for Local Authorities

Paddle Pub
Traverse City, MI- The third annual “Paddle for Pints,” which combines kayaking with drinking at local microbreweries, is drawing ire from Coast Guard officials as well as local authorities.

On Friday, hundreds of participants will load into kayaks and begin a kayak-based “pub paddle” that lasts over 6 hours and visits 6 separate breweries. This marathon of drinking and kayaking is not for the weak hearted and the Coast Guard plans to keep tabs on these IPA swilling kayakers. However, event organizers claim that safety is their top priority, adding that each party of kayakers will have a sober guide.

Although kayaking and drinking are not mutually exclusive under the law, Traverse City police officers will take action if anyone exhibits signs of disorderly behavior.
