Alyeska, AK gets 67” of New Snow Last Week | 92” in May, 959” This Year

alyeska spring snow yesterday

Alyeska ski resort in Alaska was set to operate this past Friday, Saturday, & Sunday.  Earth had different ideas.  Earth delivered 67 inches of snow over the past 5 days.  It’s heavy wet snow (4.53” of water equivalent) and it’s causing high avalanche conditions.  Intelligently, Alyeska was closed this past weekend, but they’ll be be open again for the remaining Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday in May (if it doesn’t snow another 70 inches).

“92” in May only, 871″ since Nov. 1st and 959″ since Oct.1st” – Alyeska ski resort

Alyeska is have a koo-koo season with damn near 1000” of snow.  Last year was one of their worst years on record…and they still got 515 inches of snow.

For most of us in the Lower 48, ski season is long gone.  In Alaska, there’s still a couple patches of snow left…

Mountain Update: The conditions on the mountain have not improved and we are not able to operate Chair 6 today. The 4.53″ of water (@ top 6) in the last four days has resulted in 67″ of new snow. This is super high density snow! We are scheduled to be open for May Skiing & Riding next weekend. We will be working to get the mountain ready to open then. Stay tuned and Thanks for your patience!
