“White Wolf – Livin’ the Dream” | Troy Caldwell Describes His Connection to Skiing and the White Wolf Property

The Audio on this clip is a little rough but it’s worth watching. If you’re not familiar with the “Legend of White Wolf”, this video provides a little insight from Caldwell himself on the history of the parcel and his dream for the property.

Caldwell is a ripping skier. There’s some footage of him in this clip from the 1974 ski film “Children of the Morning.” Caldwell also talks about getting started in freestyle skiing at a competition in Heavenly Valley. That was back in the 1970’s when the Face Rats owned Gunbarrel and Heavenly was a mecca for Hot Dogging.

Troy Caldwell purchased the 460 acre parcel from the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1990. With the land deed came a lease agreement with Squaw Valley Ski Corp for the 70 acres that include the top of the KT-22 lift. In this video Caldwell also references a breach of contract law suit filed by Squaw Valley Ski Corp.

The lift towers that run down the White Wolf property from the Top of KT-22 were installed in 2005. This video is circa 2008, prior to the purchase of Squaw by KSL Capital Partners.
