Face-Shots, Backflips, & 12”+ of Fresh Snow at Alpine | June 6th, 2011

alpine meadows, powder, tahoe, june 6th, 2011

The snow isn’t even weird to us anymore. It’s normal. It’s June, no resorts are open in Tahoe, & there’s over a foot of snow just laying around with nothing to do at Alpine Meadows right now.  Eric Bryant was good enough to go out and entertain the snow for an hour or so, but he’s gone now doing Calculus homework.  So, what does the snow do now!?

Just sit and rot, that’s what.  It’s a sad day to be a fresh blanket of snow in Lake Tahoe.

The shovel is stuck in at the old snow/new snow interface.  ClifBar for scale.  More than 12”, methinks.

The temperature at the top of Alpine when we were up there was 28F and the wind was a steady 23mph.  Ah, summer in California – you gotta love it!

Admittedly, today was the best June powder skiing we’ve ever had. We had a great time up there.

The last funny thing of the day was that the Avalanche conditions were getting sketchy as we were leaving.  We even got some snow to run a long way.  Crazy June day.
