Bluebird in the Morning, Dumping in the Afternoon – Telluride Pow Day – Feb. 6th, 2012

February 7th, 2012 by

Today was an amazing, surprise powder day in Telluride with periods of blue skies in the morning and dumping snow in the afternoon.

After 1-5″ of new snow was forecast from this storm, more than a foot of fresh snow ended up falling on the mountain turning into one of the best days of the season! This afternoon was DEEP!

With Telluride’s base depth approaching 60 inches and recent storms coming in with no wind, the resort is skiing awesome right now with great coverage on the Gold Hill ridge and chutes and up the Palmyra ridgeline. Huge props to Patrol who have done an amazing job recently getting more and more terrain open and skiing safe.

We are currently in a great weather cycle and hopefully these storms keep rolling through the area. The San Juans are going off right now…

Tahoe Time-Lapse

February 6th, 2012 by

A time-lapse tour of the Lake Tahoe area, need I say more? Well yeah, the bosses say I do. It’s a pretty neat place down around Lake Tahoe and this short video does the beauty some justice. Clearly, countless amazing time-lapses could be made in the Tahoe area, but I guess that would take a lot of TIME. So here is this one that I found.

This one was filmed in November of 2011 (as you can see by the dismal amounts of snow) in the following locations by order of appearance:
Sand Harbor
Truckee
Squaw Valley
Emerald Bay
Bonsai Rock
Sand Harbor
Incline Village
Tahoe City

Snowmobiling in Telluride with Dave’s Mountain Tours – 1/30/12

February 1st, 2012 by

This week a group of us went snowmobiling outside Telluride with our buddy Steve Brown from Dave’s Mountain Tours. We headed up to Woods Lake and the Beaver Park area near Wilson Mesa on a beautiful afternoon and had a blast!

With all our recent snow, the trails and sledding zones in the area are in awesome shape with lots of deep pow out there. Our crew learned first hand just how deep it was, getting the sleds stuck multiple times and having to dig them out. We had a super fun day out there with plenty of laughs, adrenaline, and good times all around…

Telluride is an amazing place to get out on snowmobiles and see just how beautiful this area is. Thanks again to Steve and the guys at Dave’s Mountain Tours for an awesome afternoon sledding!

Kelly Sildaru Still Better Than You | She’ll Be 10 in February

January 31st, 2012 by

This 9-year-old Estonian freeskier is really good and very popular on the world wide webs at the moment. Unofficial has already brought attention to Kelly on the site, but here is her second videoblog in which she wins the 2012 Polish Freeskiing Open. From the looks of the others on the podium next to Kelly, it appears that there is no age classifications in this Polish competition making Kelly’s win that much more impressive. If you just watch her switch 7′s and greased rails though, it would be no surprise that she beats competitors of any age.

The whole video is not Kelly, but I trust that you should be able to decipher which person is the 9-year-old out there. Hint: judge by height, not ability.

College Aged Males Prone To Getting Stoked | Breakthrough Study Covered on “Nightly News”

January 26th, 2012 by

“more than half of college-aged males regularly get stoked”

The youth is now, more than ever, susceptible to being stoked. The establishment is skeptical of the stoke levels among young males, and rightfully so; because we are clearly having more fun than them. Claims have been heard that excessive stokage can be dangerous, but only in the most extreme cases has an overly stoked human invited danger. Over-stokage can potentially lead to self-endangerment, but usually the ride is worth the risk. So, why all the uproar about rising levels of stok in young males?

“I know personally the effects of getting stoked can last a lifetime.”
