March into Powder | Snowbird Conditions for March 1st, 2012

March 1st, 2012 by

The snow machine is fully turned on in Little Cottonwood Canyon for the first time this season. Three top notch powder days in a row were putting a smile on even the crustiest locals’ faces. Faceshots could be found just about anywhere from the top to the tram to the bottom of the bypass road. Baldy, Silver Fox, Mach Schnell, and Tower 3 were stupid creamy and deep. If you caught Mineral right when it opened you are likely still stoked on the smoothness.

Check out the forecast of 8-18″ tonight!

Winter is Cancelled | Kyle Greenberg Edit

February 22nd, 2012 by

Kyle Greenberg is a snow cat driving fool who likes to ski fast and take chances. He has been sessioning some of the dicier lines at Snowbird this season to keep the stoke up due to our continued lack of fresh. His edit Winter is Cancelled is a POV heavy joint that will show you how to have fun at the Bird, even if there is little to no new snow floating around out there. Plus it has a dope Dubstep soundtrack to pump you up!

Super Fun Pow | Snowbird Conditions Feb. 15

February 15th, 2012 by

The snow machine is finally getting cranked up at Alta and Snowbird with more snow coating the slopes last night. The soft snow is fun for jumping around in and it is awesome when it hits you in the face too.  I would say that the upper mountain picked up about 6″ or so of new snow with West Baldy and Tower 3 being the best snow I found today. Trams were once again only half full and parking was plentiful. Oh the joys of midweek powder days!

Valentines Day Leftovers at Snowbird and Alta | Conditions Report 2-14-2012

February 14th, 2012 by

If you were lonely today for Valentines Day you could have found some leftover powder love at either Snowbird or Alta. I blasted up late in the day to find completely empty trams and lift lines, with better snow than we have had 97.98% of this season so far. The light was a little rough on the upper mountain at Snowbird, but you could easily score some soft stuff anywhere in the trees.  Both High Rustler and Eagles Nest skiing uber well at Alta between 4:00 and 4:30pm. There was light snow falling at the end of the day and I am thinking that the forecast of 1″ tonight will likely be exceeded. See you up there bright and early!

Soft Snow and Blue Skies at The Snowbird | Conditions Report Feb 3rd, 2012

February 3rd, 2012 by

Powder conditions ruled today at The Snowbird with left over snow from yesterday still in full effect. There was deep snow in the Mid Cirque and Hanging Bowl all day long and the trams were once again walk on. The word is that there is still loads of pow up on Baldy if you can hunt it down. Skies were sunny almost the whole day and even Mineral was sweet as hell.

I think there are a number of advantages to the smaller pow day, which I will now list in no particular order:

1) No canyon jam in the morning.

2) Walk on trams all day.

3) No powder panic on the hill.

4) Can get sandwich at Grits in about 3 minutes.

5) Nobody hiking Baldy.

6) Fresh lines every run.

7) No canyon jam on the way down.

8) Stoke is high and is not hindered by lift lines. (Kinda like #2, but I think this is worth 2 mentions….or is it 3.)

Utah Gets Crushed!!! | Powder Galore in the LCC

January 22nd, 2012 by

Ski season finally started today in Little Cottonwood. The drive up was snowy and slippery, there were terrain closures due to avalanche danger, and yes it was pounding snow. Pounding like I have not seen it in a long long time, like 3″ to 5″ an hour pounding. Alta was the call today since the terrain at Snowbird was ultra limited due to wind and heavy snow fall. The Wildcat chair was epic, with soft landings and face shots for all.

Late day Collins was also epic, with Fred’s Trees skiing creamy good and fast. The traffic jam on the way down was pretty all time. We rolled the dice and found a place to crash at Alta tonight hoping that we can score some County Club laps tomorrow. With multiple slides crossing the road by 9:00pm tonight tomorrow might be a tough time to get up.  Good luck to all…
