There is only one week left of lift access skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, but it look like Mother Nature doesn’t want to stop any time soon. The snow keeps falling, and the riding is a good as ever. Here is some footage from Point of Release showing some of the quality turns that are out there.
The 11″ that fell last night made today another classic at the Snowbird. Visibility was at an all-time low up top this morning so we booked it over to Gad Valley. It has been a while since I have played in the mini golf lines on that side of the hill. Get Serious, Tiger Tail and the Gun Tower Trees were all stuffed with snow. Epic Day!!!
It just doesn’t stop snowing here. Everyday is a Powder day. Everyday is stormy. Everyday is awesome. Along with copious amounts of snow this seemingly endless storm has delivered high freezing levels and even higher winds. The mega gusts, 120km, have forced Peak Chair to be closed for the last five days but have also produced some deep wind loaded pockets in the trees.
This short video shows some pow-pow and ends with me almost impaling myself on a branch. Scary. Painful. Be careful when you rip through the trees because branches are not friendly.
Today was super empty at Snowbird. Like 24 cars on the bypass, walk on trams, and not a single person hiking Baldy empty. With the lack of skiers you would think it was a poor quality day. This was not the case at all. Creamy wind buffed pow blanketed the mountain and the sun was mostly out. The only negative was that it was a little too warm out there.
Squaw Valley skier and photographer Josh Anderson was in Snowbird this week for the World Freeskiing Championships. He took these amazing shots during Day One on Silver Fox and at … Read More

Yesterday, March 9th, 2011, was the first ever International Day of GNAR. How better to kick off said occasion than with a 30 minute hike (Gold Coast to the Palisades because Siberia is still broken) and in-bounds terrain that will literally scary the crap out of you (luckily my ski pants are brown, no seriously they’re brown).
Eliel and I decided to ski. Imagine that. We did laps on Whistler, with 17cm of fresh and had the time of our life. On one of my runs following Eliel through the trees I crashed, I was blinded by his spray and hit a traverse track then landed on my face. While I was crashing Mr. GoPro camera decided it didn’t like being attached to my noodle anymore and burrowed deep in the snow. After and 45 minutes of digging I got separated from Eliel but luckily found Mr. GoPro. I think it’s fair to say that I am the only member of the Unofficial Team not to lose a GoPro. Good Job Jake, plus 1 point.
I got my first ever first chair on KT this morning, and all I had to do was get there at 3:30am. I brought my journal, though and wrote down deep thoughts about deep snow by starlight. It was a morning I’ll never forget…until I skied down KT and realized that the snow was ABSOLUTE CRAP and that I’d wasted my morning and my profound meditations on repulsive frozen mank.
