Gavin Smith: Unofficial April Edit

May 1st, 2011 by

Anyone who has not been living under a rock knows that this has been the best April of skiing ever in the history of the world. That was made official when Snowbird announced that it has received more snow this year than in any other in its 40 year history.  This is Gavin Smith’s first season in LCC. What a lucky guy! Not only did he get to ski at the best resort on the planet during his freshman year in college he got it on the best year the resort has ever had. Logic tells us that the best resort having its best year is impossible to beat. You just can’t argue with logic…that would be stupid.

Nate vs. Wolverine

April 28th, 2011 by

Nate Blouin likes to get out there and ski the good stuff. Most of the clips in the edit are from his adventures in Wolverine Cirque in the past couple weeks. I really dig on the first line in the edit. Can you believe how good April has been? Nate can’t and uses some colorful language to accentuate that.

To all you rippers out there that want to be famous on the internets shoot your best edits to me at Daryn@unofficialnetworks.com. Don’t be shy… if your edit sucks I won’t use it…I will just make fun of you for sucking. Just kidding send me the goods and I will use it. I also need photos of you and your friends doing rad stuff in snow and in the mountains in the summer.

Best Day Ever Part XXXVIII

April 27th, 2011 by

I am sure there are some haters out there that are sick of hearing that today was the Best Day Ever. Oh well….Let em hate. Today was F%cking nuts. Bluebird…again. 20″ of new light weight pow…again.  Cold, so it lasted all day…again. Why do people that like to ski powder live anywhere else? I have no clue. Today was better than the best day at 95% of the resorts in the world had this year. Crazy good snow in the Cirque, on Baldy and of course in Mexico. The lines were a little long for the tram, but Snowbird opened Peruvian for us today. Thank you Snowbird, thank you so much.

More pow and air from the youth of LCC. I really wish I had gotten to grow up here. These kids have crazy skills and are having way more fun that I did growing up. The state of Utah could use these videos if they wanted to get more people to move here, but that would further dilute the Mormon influence so they probably wouldn’t want to do that after all. Dubsatch crushing it once again!

This video was sent to me by Knut Carter and features some aggressive riding from Mr. Carter. The music will either get you pumped or pissed, but either way you will be awake and ready to face your day. I am super stoked to see some more snowboard footage coming in. Thanks Knut and to all yall other homies and homie-ettes with GoPros send your sweetest edits to Daryn@unofficialnetworks.com. Thanks!

Groundhog Day! Another Stormy One @ Snowbird

April 26th, 2011 by

After a brief 2 hours in the canyon jam this morning I actually got to ski some pow. It was super super super sick! There were a lucky few that stayed up or beat the road this morning. Tracy Price and Ryan Hudson were a few of the lucky ones that scored 2+ hours of country club riding this morning. Snowbird called an uncommon mid-day interlodge from about 12:30pm until 2:30pm due to heavy natural avalanche activity. How many other resorts have these issues this time of year? None, that’s how many. Again I will state loudly that Snowbird is far superior to any other ski resorts in North America.

Some Pow and Some Partying

April 25th, 2011 by

There was pow to be skied in the sidecountry of Snowbird early yesterday. The lines we got in Scotty’s bowl were definitely worth getting up early for. They were super fast and creamy. After that it was time to head to Alta. There was a strong showing at the High Boy Party considering the snowy weather. I was glad to see that tons of snowboarders from the Bird made it over to represent. The entire Alta Snowboard Team was there rocking their new uniform tee shirts. Good times….

Soft Snow and Bad Light

April 23rd, 2011 by

Not every day is as great as yesterday was. Today for example was still a good day to be in the canyon, but it was not quite up to yesterdays standards. The main issue today was visibility. We skied four Silver Fox runs and one thru Gad Chutes. The Fox was mostly soft and mostly smooth, but you couldn’t see much. The runout under Gad Chutes was truly bad skiing. It was snowing when I bailed at 1:00pm and maybe tomorrow will be a better day…

Best Day Ever @ Snowbird

April 22nd, 2011 by

Sometimes the deepest days are not the best days. I would argue that smooth fast snow, sunny weather, the right temps that don’t freeze your ass, but also don’t cook the snow, and a good peeps to ski with make the best days. Today had all four of those things. The groppel explosion of yesterday was followed up by a few inches last night and the somehow it was sunny and 25ish degrees all day in late April. It was a recipe for sickness!

Riders on the Storm @ Snowbird

April 21st, 2011 by

When the storm hit today at about 2:00pm it hit wicked hard. There was lightning, crazy wind and it groppled about 4-5 inches in about half an hour.  The tram did not re-open for the rest of the day which was a bummer, but the chairs were sweet and Get Serious was all smoothed out from the insta-pow explosion. I was a late arrival today, but I did get one banger run on Baldy with the guys before the storm came in. It was sick! Baldy is the best inbounds terrain anywhere period. The features and consistently killer snow are unbeatable. Your mountain has nothing on us…
