Follow along with Dean Cummings as he takes us back to the birth of big mountain skiing in Alaska with his new webseries ” Immense Wildness”:

“In the early 1990s extreme skiers fell in love with the immense wildness of Alaska’s Chugach Mountains surrounding Valdez. The Chugach has everything that skiers desire: consistently deep powder snow that coats steep slopes, thousands upon thousands of vertical foot descents from peaks to glaciers, virtually endless terrain options, a glacial refrigeration effect that enhances snowfall and preserves powder, and regions that are protected from major wind corridors. Helicopters were and still are the quickest method to access the remote terrain. These mountains demanded a whole new approach to helicopter skiing and terrain management protocol. This is the first webisode in a series showing what it took to pioneer Alaska heli skiing and open up the vast Chugach Mountains for skiers and snowboarders from around the world.”
