24 Hour Snowfall – 17″ | 48 Hour Snowfall – 17″ | Base Depth – 134″ | YTD – 548″
What the wha? Snowbird is reporting 17″ in the last 24 hours. Isn’t it supposed to be spring already?
For those hardcore LCC skiers, the news is more than welcome and today should be quite the April pow day @Snowbird. That said, expect delays in the canyon as the road report is indicating that travel is currently restricted to 4X4, AWD, or chains.
Snow Report + Avy Report
Utah Avy: Heavy snow started falling at 11 am yesterday and was still falling this morning. That amount of snow by itself can cause avalanches. At upper elevations, strong W and NW winds blew overnight and formed fresh wind slabs that should easily fracture this morning.
Most ski resorts are closed for the season they no longer perform avalanche mitigation, so treat them just like backcountry terrain. Additionally, be sure to follow any restrictions closed resorts may have for uphill travel.
Snowbird: 5 of our 11 lifts are open, for info on lifts and areas that have closed for the season please visit snowbird.com/spring. Please note that on-mountain uphill hiking and travel is not permitted.
