A 43 year-old snowboarder has perished in an apparent tree well encounter at Northstar reports the Summit Daily.

The man was visiting the Lake Tahoe ski area on Thursday and was snowboarding in expert terrain when he fell into a tree well head-first. The rider was discovered by another man who yelled for help and was later assisted by another skier, Dane Jasper of Santa Rosa, CA. They extracted the individual from the tree well and proceeded to perform CPR on the victim until the ski patrol arrived on the scene. He would later be pronounced dead.

As of today, 548″ of snow have fallen on Northstar and visiting skiers and riders should make sure to have a partner when exploring treed terrain.
