A fast moving storm created flooding rains over southern New England and snow to the north above 1500 feet. Ski areas from northern New York, Massachusetts and Vermont got a quick dose of moderate snowfall overnight. Models as of 11PM last night indicated some spots could nab an excess of 6 -10 inches at the summit and we are confident that this happened.

There is little in the way of webcams or snow data in New England compared to the Western States. We do know that about 2-4 inches of snow fell at the base of Stowe (Road was covered). We suspect there is upwards of 8 inches at the summit of many resorts this morning. Whiteface in New York had a brief period of 2 inch per hour snowfall rates making for 0 Visibility on the mid mountain access road.

The Highway trough Smugglers Notch closed due to poor visibility and blowing snow (1st road closure of the season). WOO HOO.

Official Stowe Snow Report – 11″ at the summit (48 Hours)

Light snow is still falling in northern Vermont as the core of energy heads into Canada. Our annual forecast is predicting colder temperatures this winter with near or above average snowfall for many resorts. It can’t get any worse than last season right?
