With a new low pressure system on the horizon, it looks as though winter still has a little more to give us. In their recently published forecast, The Climate Prediction Center has indicated that a strong low pressure system is set to move into the Great Basin this weekend bringing with it a chance for high altitude snow showers and low altitude rain across much of the west.

“Forecast simulations are coming into better agreement in a transition to a wet pattern starting the end of the upcoming week into next weekend. The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day and 8-14 day outlooks both agree on this as well.” – NWS Reno
Colorado
Colorado looks to be the one who will receive the most snow out of this system. As cold air stays ahead of the front, the higher altitude resorts could receive double digit snow totals and blower April powder days are a real possibility.

California
While temps are expected to be above average for this time of year, the high peaks in the Sierra should still see quite a bit of snow. That snow could make for a decent spring touring season that’s been mostly absent during the past 4 years.

Utah
Utah is set to grab quite a bit of precipitation over the next month and while Alta’s closing date has been tentatively set for April 24, Snowbird will keep running lifts into May! The kicker to all this is that temps are projected to stay close to or below normal for this time of year, which could provide for the “Greatest Snow On Earth” to make a surprise appearance in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
