With sea ice melting at an alarming rate, one Australian teenager just beat the clock by becoming the youngest person ever to ski to the North Pole reports Yahoo.

Hailing from Melbourne, Jade Hameister set out with the hopes of completing the grueling 150km trek in 21 days. However, bad weather hampered those efforts and ultimately she finished a few days past her goal on April 25th. In an interview with News Corp from Norway, Hameister commented on the strange feeling of navigating the arctic wilderness saying, “It was like nothing I expected, like a white planet Mars — weird but awesome.”

Jade was the first woman to complete the trek in two years!

She was accompanied by National Geographic photographer Petter Nyquist in addition to a guide and her father, Paul. Nyquist will use that footage for a documentary set to come out sometime towards the end of the year.

Congrats Jade!
