In a move that defies the upward trend of costly day tickets and season passes, Taos Ski Valley is blazing its own trail in an effort to provide its locals with an affordable ski season.

Known for its world-class steeps and chutes, the New Mexico ski resort founded by ski legends Ernie and Rhoda Blake in 1955 is now becoming one of the first to drop the cost of a season pass for its locals.

The new price comes in long line of surprises from the resort’s new billionaire owner, Louis Bacon. According to reports, Bacon opened a single lift to locals for an impromptu, late season ski day in May. And while the surprises keep coming, not many locals would have believed that season pass prices would actually fall.

However from now until April 15th, season passes are going for just $749. That price is $30 less than it was this previous year.
