A French ski instructor has been found guilty of manslaughter after one of his clients died in an avalanche while the two were skiing off piste in Val d’Isere in 2010.

The incident happened on December 9th 2010 following heavy snowfall that increased the avalanche risk to 3 on a scale of 5. The 50-year old instructor was found guilty earlier this week by a court in Albertville, France. The court will now decide on the punishment and hand down its judgement on May 22nd.

This ruling could have significant implications for the industry.
