Daniel Hohs, who had recently moved to Golden from Steamboat Springs, was roughly a mile and a half up the trail when the rattlesnake in question bit his ankle. Once struck, he waited with a friend who dialed 9-1-1. While waiting for first responders to arrive on the scene, an off-duty doctor tended to Hohs.
Ultimately a group of firefighters with the Golden Gate Fire Protection District extracted the victim before transporting him to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood. Daniel Hohs passed away later that same afternoon.
