The Atmopsheric River is here and higher elevation ski areas of the Sierra are getting a fresh coat of POW to kick off winter!

Mammoth, Mt Rose, and Sugarbowllike we predicted— are all getting decent accumulations. According to OpenSnow’s Bryan Allegretto, snow levels dropped to lake level early this morning but have since risen to around 6,500′ and will continue to rise during the day before going back down this evening.

Snow will continue throughout today with the highest elevations near Mammoth forecasted to up to 4+ FEET of snow. Tahoe’s high elevations should see slightly less– somewhere around 3+ FEET. Jesus. Mary. And…

  • Mt Rose is reporting between 20-26″ of fresh
  • Squaw/Alpine reporting just 2″of fresh

Winter Storm Warning [Tahoe]

…WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM PST FRIDAY ABOVE 7000 FEET…

* WHAT…Heavy snow occurring. Plan on difficult travel conditions Expect damage to trees and power lines as well. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet above 7500 feet. Accumulations below 7500 feet are more uncertain due to variations in snow levels today, but accumulations up to 6 inches are possible this morning near 6500 feet with 6 to 12 inches between 6500 and
7500 feet.

* WHERE…Greater Lake Tahoe Area, and mountain passes for Interstate 80, Highway 50 and state routes 88, 89, 207 and 431.

* WHEN…Until 4 AM PST Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times. Roads will be wet or snow-covered. Reduce speed and maintain a safe distance with the vehicles around you.

* WHAT…Heavy snow occurring. Plan on difficult travel conditions. Expect damage to trees and power lines as well. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 feet above 8000 feet along the Sierra Crest, with localized amounts up to 4 feet, are expected.

* WHERE…Mono County. This includes the higher passes along Highway 395 where wet roads will become snow-covered by this afternoon or evening.

* WHEN…Until 4 AM PST Friday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times.
