Differentiating between the world of satire and the world of reality can be hard in Aspen, CO. Some of the stories coming out of the Aspen Times are flat-out hard to believe– that is if there weren’t police reports to back them up.

One Aspen snowboarder is filling that stereotype this week with a story that’s pure ski bum. This past Friday, Noah Huckabee stole two pairs of snowboard boots– all in one day. According to the Aspen Times, the thefts occurred at a locker-room near Gondola Plaza as well as a rental shop in the area. But it’s not exactly the stealing part that’s interesting, it’s the why he stole that’s gold.

Upon police confrontation, 28 year-old Noah Huckabee admitted to the thefts but justified his actions by saying he ‘had’ to be riding on the mountain that day. Police reports go on to indicate that Huckabee alleged people were always stealing from him and this was his way to get his.

Video surveillance shows Huckabee lifting the boots from a Gondola Plaza locker room, the evidence of which ultimately lead to his arrest. Upon further inspection, police found another pair of boots, this time rentals that were also stolen.

In addition to the thefts, he also nabbed a pair of goggles that were wedged inside one of the pairs of boots. He proceeded to throw them away in a trashcan, justifying the move by telling the police he doesn’t, “wear other people’s goggles.” Yet other people’s used, smelly snowboard boots are just fine….
