Hans Florine literally wrote the bookOn The Nose for Yosemite’s El Capitan. And even though he’s climbed the route hundreds of time– pro’s make mistakes too.

Last week, Florine suffered severe injuries after falling from one of the upper pitches on El Cap. Now he’s asking others to use his experience as a reason to stay humble on the rock. Florine was climbing the route with Abraham Shreve when he placed a piece of protective gear that didn’t hold. He ultimately tumbled off the face and hit a ledge below, breaking a leg in the process.

“Well, there is a rescue going on, on El Capitan. And it’s me. I think I broke my leg. Rescuers please be safe.” – Hans Florine Instagram Post

After the fall, Shevre assisted the injured pro by getting him anchored in a safe spot where they would spend the night. Florine posted a selfie to Instagram letting the Yosemite climbing community know he was requiring a rescue. That rescue wouldn’t be completed until the following morning. The group says that the experience should serve as a reminder to all climbers that complacency can prove deadly.
